Meet The Mt. Lawley Chiropractic Wellness Team

Dr. Les Pereira (Chiropractor)
For years as a child I suffered from headaches and migraines which after seeing the GP on many occassions my parents were informed that it was in my head and that I was probably using it as a excuse to skip school and stay home. It was not until one day that it kept me from playing football one weekend and that is when Dr Geoff Pitman (whose son also played for our team) enquired to where I was. My father informed him that I was suffering from a migraine and that is when I was introduced to Chiropractic. Geoff told my father to bring me down to the clinic that afternoon where he examined my spine and put me onto a course of adjustments which led to not only my migraines disappearing but also me being a lot more healthy than I had been for the previous few years.
After such a dramatic result at the age of ten I decided there and then that is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. To be able to have such a dramatic effect on someones life as Dr Pitman had on mine I think is awesome. Everything I did in my schooling was always aimed at becoming a chiropractor. When I left High School I was too young to be admitted into the Chiropractic Course in Melbourne. When I left High School I went to Curtin University and did a Bachelor of Science Degree for the sole purpose of getting into Chiropractic College. After completing this degree I entered the chiropractic college in Melbourne.
Five long years away from home I completed the Chiropractic course and then returned to practice in Bunbury. I worked there for about one year before chatting to Dr Pitman again about buying a practice in Mandurah. It was at this stage he informed me that he did not understand why I was looking at buying that practice when he always expected me to come and work with him and eventually take over Mt Lawley Chiropractic Clinic. After about 18 months Geoff informed me that he was happy to leave knowing that his patient were going to be looked after and retired. Since then I have been working at the Mt Lawley Chiropractic Clinic.
I believe that for too long now we have been told that it is normal for us to get sick and that we wait until it is too bad to function then we go and see what we can do about it. This is so Wrong!. We should be looking at how do we maintain our optimal health. Prevention is better than the cure.
I am married to my beautiful wife Emma (we met at Curtin University in the early days) and have a son named Ethan. My family and their wellbeing is the most important thing to me. My hobbies include surf lifesaving (being a member of the Mullaloo Surf Lifesaving club for the past 15 years), Scuba Diving, Fishing (Which I do not get enough time to do) and watching Football during the winter months. (Go the Eagles) The rest of the spare time I like just relaxing with my family and friends.
Chiropractic Care is important for me. I spend a lot of time adjusting patients and coming into contact with so many sick people it is vital that I maintain my neurological system at its optimum. I get adjusted at least once a week and sometimes more regularly if I think I need it. In recent time I have not been as pro-active in exercise and diet and have suffered as a consequence so have started to make a concerted effort into changing some of the poor habits I have developed. The next 18 months I am looking forward to forging good habits and eliminating some of the poor habits I developed.

Dr. Andrew Wilkinson (Chiropractor)
My attention was drawn to Chiropractic after I left high school and took a labourer’s position on my uncle’s farm. He had recently purchased a large portion of grazing land that was covered in rocks and logs and various other weathered objects and it was my role to clear the land. I was well informed on how to lift correctly, but typical of human nature I became slack and complacent and started relying on my back to lift heavy objects instead of my legs.
After about 3 weeks of continual lifting, I awoke one morning with the strangest sensation; I couldn’t open my mouth! My Uncle, who swears by chiropractic, suggested I visit a Chiropractor for treatment.
After consulting a Chiropractor in Perth, it was clear that my pelvis was functionally misaligned, and was the result of my poor lifting technique. I was confused as to how that could cause my jaw to lock? The Chiropractor explained to me that my body started compensating for the excessive and unnatural stresses that I was placing on my body and spine. And so the compensation eventually moved up my biomechanical chain causing my jaw to lock. After a few treatments I was opening my jaw normally. It’s was amazing that something so seemingly distant from my jaw (i.e. my pelvis) was the structural cause of my problem. My fascination with this and the body lead me to follow the path of chiropractic. To this day I am still astonished at how intimately connected the entire neuromusculoskeletal system is.
In 2007, I travelled to the north east of India to volunteer my time and chiropractic skills to Bangladesh refugees, to aid and improve the wellbeing of the lives of those who were born into poverty. It was a humbling experience to say the least. Our patients had very little exposure to medical care, and were overwhelmingly grateful for our help. It was brilliant to see how chiropractic could change people’s lives and if I ever had doubts as to the effectiveness of chiropractic, my doubts were alleviated on that trip.
I studied my trade here in Perth at Murdoch University, and since then, in my experience as a Chiropractor I am continually stunned at the effectiveness of a chiropractic adjustment. The body is a complex system of wires that is run by a super computer, and as chiropractors it is our role to keep that system free of obstruction and interference. Chiropractors aren’t miracle workers, but if nervous interference from spinal biomechanical inefficiencies is the source of the problem, then chiropractors can help.
I have been involved in sport most of my life and as I am turning 30 this year, maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle is of the utmost importance to me. Though it is not always possible, it is my aim to get my spine checked at least weekly so that in my endeavour for optimal health and fitness and I am ahead of the game. Mosby’s Health Dictionary states that “health or disease is the expressions of the success or failure experienced by the organism in its efforts to respond adaptively to environmental challenges”. So the better prepared we are for life’s little challenges, the greater the state of health we can achieve. I therefore look forward to helping you achieve success with your health.

Tina Lembo - Wellness Team Coordinator
I have had a neck problem for over 20 years and I lived in constant pain.
As far as I was concerned there was nothing I could do about it so pain became apart of my life. That was until I met the team from Longevity Wellness Centre.
After a program of care the tension in my neck is gone and I started to notice other wonderful changes ie: sitting and standing for long period of time pain free, increased energy, improved sleep and the list goes on.
My passion is to help people and make a difference in their lives so working with the wonderful team at the Longevity Wellness Centre is the perfect job for me.
I also volunteer at Radio Lolli Pop at PMH Perth Children’s Hospital. I get to play games, read books and make the sick children laugh.
Hobbies and activities: I love to keep fit playing soccer, tennis, squash and ten pin bowling. Bike riding, fishing, walking, reading and gardening are some of the activities I enjoy.
